Nestled within a lush, creek-lined gully in Lane Cove on Sydney’s Lower North Shore, Treetops House is one of the most remarkable homes built by Oceanside Custom Building to date.

Surrounded by native Australian trees, palms and ferns, the home sits high above a private bushland outlook alive with birdsong and native wildlife, including wallabies moving through the gully below. This project was a full new build from the ground up and one of OCB’s largest and most complex constructions. Built on a steeply sloping block, the home unfolds across three internal levels, with a fourth level garage at street level, carefully engineered to sit comfortably within the landscape while maximising outlook, airflow, and privacy.

Architecturally, the design welcomes the natural surroundings inward. Large openings, thoughtful orientation, and strong indoor / outdoor connections create a calm, grounded living experience that responds directly to the bush setting. The solid brick construction provides excellent thermal mass, making the home solar passive, naturally temperate, and energy efficient, cool and breezy in summer, warm and cosy in winter. Truly, a house designed for all seasons.

The roof forms are a defining feature of the home. Uniquely angled and architecturally expressive, they introduce complexity both structurally and internally. These challenging geometries required a high level of craftsmanship and precision, with OCB carefully resolving junctions, ceilings, and transitions so the spaces feel effortless, generous, and refined.

The use of Australian hardwoods, both internally and externally, anchors the home to its environment. Timber detailing enhances the architecture while reinforcing the connection to the surrounding bushland, allowing the house to sit naturally within its setting rather than compete with it.
